Crypto Billionaire Joins “The Giving Pledge”. When you have reached billionaire status in total wealth by age 35, that is a very impressive achievement. When you also plan to donate most of your wealth to a noble cause, that is rare. Ben Delo has done both in his recent decision to join The Giving Pledge.
Delo has joined the ranks of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet as two prominent members of this charitable cause. He made his fortune in the crypto industry as the co-founder of BitMEX. Ultimately, this is a crypto derivatives exchange. He has now pledged to donate a substantial amount of his fortune to combat global challenges.
The Giving Pledge was actually started by Bill and Melinda Gates along with Warren Buffet. It is a charitable initiative aimed at the super-rich. Delo’s recent pledge is to spend his money funding initiatives for catastrophic threats. At the top of the list was nuclear war and extreme climate change.
He will also direct funds to combat potential risks from emerging technologies. The two mentioned by name were engineered pandemics and advanced AI. His company released a press release detailing these plans.
Delo, himself released the following statement on The Giving Pledge website:
“Nuclear security cannot be taken for granted. The prospect of extreme climate change is real. Looking forward, advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and synthetic biology will pose new and complex challenges.”
To further explain his reasoning, he added:
“I’ve chosen this focus for several reasons. In short, I believe that all lives are valuable, including those of future generations. I expect that a vast and extraordinary future lies ahead if we can navigate the challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies in the upcoming century.”
Another prominent member of this charitable group is Brian Armstrong. He is also another crypto billionaire as the CEO of Coinbase.com. He made his pledge to the growing group in December of 2018. His primary focus will be education.
